Portraits of Action in 8th ICAAP

    APLF organised a leadership symposium 'Portraits of Action' as part of the main programme of the 8th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) in Colombo on 21 August 2007. The session was co-chaired by Dr Nafis Sadik, UN Secretary General Special Envoy on HIV/AIDS for Asia and the Pacific and APLF Steering Committee member and Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu, Executive Director of Centre for Policy Alternatives - Sri Lanka.

     The panel of speakers included three leaders namely: Congresswoman Maria Isabelle Climaco on the local government response in the Philippines, Pastor Daniel Hewali on the faith based response in Papua New Guinea and Mr Clive Haswell, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Sri Lanka on the business sector

   The session provided the conference participants with concrete examples of leadership action on AIDS and helped them to understand that despite different AIDS epidemics amid constantly changing environment in the region, getting leaders to act in response to AIDS is possible.
