Shared Learning workshops

One of APLF earliest activities were Shared Learning Workshops, organised in all 3 sub-regions:

Southeast Asia
25-29 August 2003 (Bali-Indonesia),
13 September 2003 and
12 July 2004 ( Bangkok)
Pacific
6-10 October 2003 ( Madang-Papua New Guinea)
South Asia
8-12 December 2003 (Hendala-Sri Lanka)

Participants in these workshops were senior government officials from various ministries in the APLF supported countries including Ministries of Education, Finance, and Planning.

The overall objectives of Shared Learning Workshop were:

1.
  To increase awareness and knowledge of the implications for all aspects of national and community development of an unchecked HIV/AIDS epidemic.
2.
  To increase comprehension of effective multi-sectoral strategies to prevent and reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS, including the critical role of leadership.
3.
  To improve understanding of the need to integrate HIV/AIDS programs as a priority within national development plans and to mobilize the necessary resources.
4.
  To outline a plan of action to identify and mobilize senior government colleagues in each country to expand the national response to HIV/AIDS.
5.
  To develop a network of APLF participants for support and information sharing.
